One of the best-selling musicians of all time is now venturing into freedom of speech through the purchase of Parler.
Parler is a relatively unknown app on the market. It has only recently made its way back to Google Play Store. The app was removed historically for inappropriate posts. Now, Kanye has stepped in to revive the platform. An agreement in principle has been put in place to sell the “pioneering uncancelable free speech platform” to Ye.
Acquisition of Parler
The app raised 56 million in total from investors. Historically, it’s gained traction with millions of users gravitating quickly to the app. Users enjoy the ability for complete freedom of speech.
The purchase is expected to take place by the end of the year.
He has been quoted saying – “In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves,”
The match could not be more fitting. Kanye West and ‘extreme freedom for speech’ app.

Kanye said during a press release – “In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves,”
Parler is a French word meaning ‘to speak.’ It is an alt-tech social networking website which resembles Twitter. Users will have the liberty to actively engage on the platform even if they have received bans from other social networks. One can only imagine it to be the perfect platform for far-right or far-left speakers to roam freely expressing illicit ideas. The sort of things that may be discussed in the deep dark web.
Kanye West Will Be A Rival Towards Elon Musk’s Efforts With Twitter
With Ye’s name being dropped in with Parler, the app has gained more popularity recently. Kanye West has sold sold over 160 million records worldwide. He’s a pretty well-known celebrity thanks to the equally famous mother of his children, Kim Kardashian.
Prior to its removal, the app was taking getting popular. it had more than 1.5 million daily users but the last week of June 2020.

As cancel culture goes, the app would empower its users to the point of being “uncancellable.”
On the app, you have options to pick from a range of topics including but not limited to:
- Law, government and politics
- Humour and/or Comedy
- News
- Books and Literature
- Beauty
- Business
- Philosophy
Parler may come across as a social media platform which has a weak grip on fake news and shock value content. But is in fact milder than that. The app may have little ability to check the veracity of statements but time will tell how much of an issue this will be for users. Some may say it feels like it’s lending itself to some 1984 dystopic future for social media where anything can be said with little repercussion. However, freedom of speech is perhaps what we need at a global level. People should have the freedom to voice their true words. And to fight for what they believe in. State-level paternalism has led to many difficulties for people as a whole.
Kanye West’s influence may be exactly what this app needed in order to attract users.
