Whether this is your first time travelling to Iceland or your first time travelling at all it is always best to have some insight into what to do or where to stay.
Prior to booking my trip to Iceland I made sure I did extensive research as to what to expect – the one thing I was sure of is that it’s NOTHING like living in England or other European countries.
Hotel Recommendation:
If you’re planning a trip to Reykjavik, Iceland it is important you find the best hotel. This country is quite cold, tourist destinations are not proximate therefore, you would need to stay at a hotel that is happy to assist and will offer you a comfortable stay. During my time in Reykjavik, Iceland I stayed at the Grand Hotel Reykjavik.
Grand Hotel Reykjavik in a nutshell:
This is a 4* hotel – the service was exceptional. They accommodated to our needs prior to staying there. We were able to contact the hotel booking.com webchat to accommodate our booking. We required 3 beds in one room, and they have no problem in providing this at no extra cost.
My stay there was comfortable. The room included amenities (of course this may vary depending on the room you book). In my stay we have access to a refrigerator and storage area for food above it, kettle, mugs (including coffee packets), a large wardrobe with multiple units to place your clothing in and a safe, iron and a wide screen television.
In the bathroom we were provided with slippers, shower supplies such as shampoo, conditioner and soap
- We had toilet paper
- A hairdryer
- Free toiletries
We had breakfast included with our stay. Unfortunately, we were only able to eat breakfast at the hotel for only one day due to the timings of our tour. However, the eating area projected a luxurious feel with the moody lighting and the fancy décor. The breakfast was more than your continental breakfast. They offered a wide selection of hot, savoury, sweet and pastry dishes. It also included a varied selection of cereal.
Included in the breakfast was hot and cold drinks.
Overall it was an excellent stay and what surprised me the most was the amount of space we had in our room despite there being 3 large beds! The room exceeded my expectations! The stay was very accommodating and provided us with whatever we need. They provided room service and kept our room very clean every day we spent there. We were provided a telephone in our room which made the staff accessible. They were very friendly, welcoming and reliable. They had no problem in helping us book tours with tour guide companies which made me feel at ease throughout my trip.
Other hotels I considered:
- Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Natura
- City Park Hotel
- Hilton Reykjavik Nordica
Best places to book group and private tours for excursions:
Bus travel: (My experience with this company was great. Their tour guides were extremely friendly and made long haul travels to the south of Iceland a lot of fun. They were very knowledgeable and passionate in sharing their own personal stories about growing up in Iceland. Overall, what made this company perfect to book was that at the time I was booking they offered great discounts and special packages on many of their tours! – head straight to their website to have a look at what deals you can grab) https://bustravel.is/tours Gray Line Iceland https://grayline.is/
HIRE A CAR – the flexibility is all yours! I did come across some car hire companies that are based in most places in Europe and the United Kingdom.
